Which airport is the closest?
Zurich Airport is the closest. Followed by Geneva and Milan. Smaller airports such as Basel, Belp, or Sion are also well connected. Take the train to Visp from there.
Can I buy my train ticket in advance?
Yes, we recommend online bookings four weeks prior to travelling at www.sbb.ch. Tickets are also available at the airport counter.
How can I get to Matthiol Boutique Hotel?
Zermatt is car-free. Here, electric taxis and buses are the means of transportation. We offer a free shuttle service for arrivals and departures between 8am and 9pm. Call us as soon as you know about your time of arrival and we will pick you up at the station.
What is the best way to get to Zermatt?
By train. First, take the train to Visp. From there, take a shuttle train to Zermatt.
By car: Go to Täsch where you can park directly at the station and take the shuttle train (every 20 minutes) to Zermatt or you park at one of the taxi companies in Täsch and have them organise a taxi transfer to Zermatt.
If you are planning on arriving by car, we are happy to reserve a parking space in Täsch with a taxi company for you.
How far is the hotel from the centre?
The hotel is around a 20-minute walk from the train station.
Is there public transport in Zermatt?
Yes, two bus lines run in Zermatt – the red and green line. The "Wichje" bus stop is three minutes from the hotel.
Can I move into the room before 3pm / leave after noon?
Check-out after noon until 6pm is subject to availability at an additional cost of CHF 80. Check-in before 3pm is possible for free if the room is already available.
Can I leave my luggage on departure?
Yes, we are happy to keep your luggage, skis, or bikes at the hotel, so you can enjoy the day in Zermatt.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, dogs are welcome for a daily rate of CHF 20 per dog, without food. At the Matthiol, your four-legged friend also get into the vacation spirit when we greet them with a blanket and a feeding bowl.
Which payment methods are accepted?
We accept American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, cash, and advance payments via bank transfer.
Can I cancel my trip?
You can cancel your room free of charge up to 15 days before arrival. For cancellations less than 15 days prior to arrival or in case of no-show, 100% of the booking price will be charged.
Cancellations on Christmas and New Year
Due to the high demand during the holidays, we can only confirm bookings for Christmas and New Years with a deposit of 50% of the booking price. The deposit must be received two months before arrival. The invoice for this deposit will be sent to you by email. For cancellations less than 60 days before arrival, 100% of the booking price will be charged.
When will my booking be confirmed?
We can guarantee your booking after you provide us with your credit card number with its expiration date for security. Without this information, your rooms can be let out without prior notice.
Where can I buy the lift pass?
Directly at the reception or the mountain railway stations.
Where can I rent skis?
We recommend Julen Sport. You can make an appointment in advance at https://www.julensport.ch/
There, as a guest of the Matthiol, you will not only enjoy a 10% discount but the skis will also be delivered directly to the hotel by Julen and picked up on departure.
Where can I find ski schools and mountain guides?
Zermatt has many highly qualified ski schools and mountain guides. During the high season, we recommend you organise courses, tours, guides, and teachers in advance. We will be happy to assist you find suitable teachers and guides for you, as well as do the bookings.
How far is the ski lift from the hotel?
Reaching Klein Matterhorn Station is a 7-minute walk, from where you can reach the ski area.
How do I fulfil special ideas?
Our alert and omniscient reception team will organise whatever your heart desires: Helicopter flights, paragliding, heli-skiing, and much more.
Is it advisable to reserve tables?
Especially during high season, we recommend booking ahead. We are happy to take care of your reservations at Filet et Fils, Stafelalp and other restaurants. During the winter season, as well as in July and August, the tables are booked quickly. During this time we advise to reserve seats in the evening as well as at noon.
In which room categories can an extra bed be ordered?
We offer extra beds in Spa Double Rooms and Matterhorn Spa Double Rooms at the price of CHF 80 per night. Please note that these are not actual beds but are extra beds.
What are the reception hours?
The reception is open from 8 am to 11pm. For check-ins later than this, please contact us. If you want to check out before 8am, we ask you to do this the night before until 11pm.
Are gluten-free and/or lactose-free products available?
Yes, we offer both. Please inform us in advance.
